Why Renovation Dust Inside AC Ducts Is a Problem in Dubai

Gypsum, cement and sanding dust are very fine. If the AC runs during works, return grilles pull dust from the room into the system. Dust also travels through gaps around doors and openings in ceilings.

1. Ask your contractor to switch off AC in the work zone where practical.
2. Seal return grilles and supply vents in the work area with plastic and tape.
3. Keep doors to the work zone closed and use dust sheets.
4. Clean or replace filters more often while works are ongoing.
5. Agree with the contractor who removes the vent covers at the end.

• Remove a vent cover and look inside with a torch — fine white or grey dust on the duct surface is a clear sign.
• Run the AC briefly and see whether dust puffs out of vents.
• Check filters: heavy, pale dust shortly after works suggests dust entered the system.
• Look at surfaces under diffusers a day after cleaning.

If several of these apply, a clean is worth booking before moving furniture back in.

Don't run the AC for days “to blow it out” — dust gets pushed further through the system and loads the filter and coil. Don't rely on wiping vent covers only; the dust inside the duct runs stays put.
